Heavy rain continues in Bangkok as storms forecast across 80% of capital and surrounding areas

BANGKOK: Rain arrived in Bangkok in the early hours of Sept 27, with Thailand’s meteorological department warning that heavy downpours could worsen flooding in the capital.

Thunderstorms are forecast across 80 per cent of Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

Over the next 24 hours, many areas in the western part of Thailand’s central region are expected to have heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places.

Rainfall is beginning to ease in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, as well as in the east. But the rain is set to continue, with heavy downpours in some areas.

Schools run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will close on Sept 28 to keep students, parents, teachers and education staff safe, said BMA’s Department of Education on Sept 26.
