Indonesia facing spike in Influenza A cases

Jakarta, IO – Influenza A infections are on the rise across Indonesia. According to Health Ministry (Kemenkes) data, the positivity rate for influenza during laboratory testing reached 38 percent in week 35, climbing from 22 percent the previous week. Out of 175 specimens tested, 66 tested positive for influenza, with the majority identified as influenza A(H1N1)pdm09.

Professor Tri Wibawa of the Gadjah Mada University’s (UGM) Department of Microbiology stated that while the uptick in August 2026 should not cause panic, public health mitigation measures remain essential to curb transmission risks. “The increase in influenza A findings in August does not warrant an overreaction, though risk mitigation steps must still be prepared,” he said, quote by Ugm.ac.id, Sunday (20/9/2026).
