He bought a Rs 60 bicycle and cycled 6,000 miles to reach the woman he loved

When Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia, known as PK, fell in love with a Swedish woman in Delhi in the mid-1970s, getting to her was not simple. He was an Indian art student from Odisha. She was a young woman from a Swedish noble family. When Lotta returned to Sweden, PK had no money for a flight. So, in January 1977, he bought a second-hand ladies’ Raleigh bicycle for 60 rupees, packed a sleeping bag, a small tent and his art materials, and began cycling towards Sweden.He had never planned a journey like this. He only knew that he had to reach the woman he loved. It took him 133 days and nearly 6,000 miles across several countries to get there.The extraordinary story was recently reported by The Telegraph, based on conversations with PK, Lotta, their children and filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel.
