HC seeks report on plea to restore peace and normalcy to Kansapuram
The Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to file a report regarding a petition to restore peace in Kansapuram. The petition highlights ongoing caste-based tensions and harassment faced by the Devendrakula Vellalar community from the Maravar community.

Referring to the recent clash between caste groups in Kansapuram in Virudhunagar district the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the State to file a report to a public interest litigation petition that sought a direction to authorities to protect the life, liberty, dignity and property of the members of the Devendrakula Vellalar community residing in Kansapuram and restore peace and normal life in the area.
A Division Bench of Justices C.V. Karthikeyan and R. Sakthivel was hearing the petition filed by advocate V. Periyasamy, a resident of Kansapuram. The petitioner said he belongs to the Devendrakula Vellalar community.
He said Kansapuram comprises people from various communities. There were around 350 families belonging to the Devendrakula Vellalar community. Around 2,300 persons belonging to the Maravar community were also residing in the village, he said.
