HC orders Magistrate inquiry into death of 55-year-old man

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday ordered a Magistrate inquiry into the death of 55-year-old Paramasivam. The family of the man alleged that he died due to police excess.
Justice P. Murugan directed the postmortem of the body be conducted by a team of three Senior Professors from the Forensic Department of Madurai, Theni and Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospitals.
The court appointed Advocate Aayiram K. Selvakumar as advocate commissioner in the case to ascertain whether CCTV cameras were installed at the police station and whether any of the CCTV cameras were removed.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Ayyammal, wife of Paramasivam, of Mela Anuppanadi. The petitioner alleged that her husband was assaulted by police personnel of Chintamani police station on July 19 in the name of inquiry. The couple and their neighbours had quarrelled over parking of a vehicle.
