HC orders comprehensive inquiry into appointments under priority category
The Madras High Court has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the recruitment of temporary workers in Tirunelveli district following allegations of fake disability certificates used between 2005 and 2015. The court directed the government to review employment exchange procedures to prevent future irregularities.

Taking a serious view of the fact that several persons had obtained appointments on a temporary basis to the posts of sanitary workers, overhead tank operators, overhead tank watchmen, electricians and junior assistants in town panchayats and municipalities in Tirunelveli district, using fake disability certificates from 2005 to 2015, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court ordered a comprehensive inquiry.
Justice B. Pugalendhi directed the Secretary to Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department to constitute a committee of senior officers to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the manner in which candidates were sponsored by the District Employment Exchange for appointment under the priority category.
Based on the findings of the committee, the Secretary should take appropriate departmental action against the officers/officials concerned, wherever such action is found warranted, after putting them on notice. The entire exercise should be completed in six weeks, the court directed.
