( NewsNation ) — A clinical and forensic psychologist told NewsNation the shock death of Hayden Panettiere follows a tragic, well-worn path.
Panettiere, 36, died at an apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday.
Her death is under investigation, with NewsNation's Paula Froelich reporting officers are investigating the possibility of an overdose. An initial autopsy report showed no signs of trauma.
In the months before her death, Panettiere opened up publicly about her battle with addiction, depression and an abusive relationship with Brian Hickerson she struggled to escape.
In her memoir published three months ago today , the actress described the abuse she suffered at Hickerson's hands, comparing the physical abuse she endured to "Watching a predator suddenly smell blood," while speaking on the " On Purpose with Jay Shetty " podcast.
