Number 8 Studios has submitted a resource consent application to build a major film production hub in Pakipaki, Hawke’s Bay. The facility aims to attract international and domestic productions while boosting the local economy through job creation and infrastructure development.

Resource consent for a film studio aiming to make Hawke’s Bay a filming capital for domestic and international productions has been submitted.
Number 8 Studios delivered the consent to Hastings District Council on Friday, with plans to repurpose an old plastic factory in Pakipaki into a major film studio and screen production hub.
The proposed facility would include two 2400sq m sound stages, production offices, workshops and supporting production infrastructure.
The intent is to attract domestic and international film, television, commercial and emerging screen technology projects to Hawke’s Bay while developing local skills, businesses, suppliers and screen infrastructure.
The original factories would be torn down and studios built on the foundations, with the offices renovated.
