Hawk Fire evacuations expand south into Somersett neighborhoods

The Hawk Fire grew to more than 10,500 acres Saturday, prompting expanded evacuation orders across northwest Reno and the North Valleys. Officials confirmed structures were lost, though the number and types of structures were not immediately available.
Gov. Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in Washoe County. About 400 local, state and federal personnel are assigned to the incident, including ground crews and air resources.
Fire officials said strong, gusty winds, low humidity and dry vegetation fueled the fire’s significant growth. Crews will continue working overnight.
New evacuation orders include parts of Somersett and neighborhoods north of West Seventh Street to North McCarran Boulevard. Residents should check perimetermap.com for exact boundaries and current road closures.
The evacuation shelter is in Hall 4 of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center at 4590 South Virginia St.
