Why it matters
The allegations touch upon systemic corruption and administrative transparency in land governance, which directly impacts property rights and market stability.
BRSLP deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao has written to Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi alleging large-scale irregularities in the implementation of Section 22A of the Registration Act, 1908, in Telangana and seeking the removal of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy. He also demanded the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry headed by a retired High Court judge to probe the matter.
In the letter, Mr. Rao alleged that the Revenue and Registration machinery had been misused to classify private properties, including HMDA and GHMC approved layouts and patta lands, as government or ceiling-surplus lands, resulting in restrictions on registration and property transactions.
