Harish blames State govt. for rise in prices of ‘sanna biyyam’ amid huge production claims
BRS leader T. Harish Rao has criticized the state government for the rising prices of essential commodities like rice and onions despite claims of record production. He has called for a government review and stricter measures to prevent hoarding.
Why it matters
Rising food inflation directly impacts the cost of living for citizens and serves as a key point of contention for opposition parties.
Senior leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and its Deputy Floor Leader in the Assembly T. Harish Rao alleged that the State government is staying a mute spectator while the prices of essential commodities, including the widely grown rice, were skyrocketing.
In a statement, he said on Monday that the price of fine quality rice has increased over 25% during the last four months despite the government repeatedly claiming that paddy has been produced at a record level during 2025-26. Instead of prices coming down with ample production, they are on the rise unabatedly.
He questioned the claims of the government’s supply of fine rice through the public distribution system (ration card).
