Harare City Council wrecks stadia, then pleads for handouts
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume is seeking private sector partnerships to renovate city stadiums that have fallen into disrepair due to municipal neglect. While the council has failed to maintain its own facilities, the mayor is promoting a vision of modernized, community-based sports infrastructure.

WHILE the Harare City Council has failed to maintain its sports facilities to decent standards, the Mayor, Jacob Mafume, has pleaded with the private sector to partner the beleaguered municipality in giving a facelift to stadia in the capital.
Mafume said this after touring Mabvuku Stadium, which is undergoing construction after ZANU PF Member of Parliament Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya secured a long-term lease of the facility.
Mabvuku Stadium is part of the Scottland Football Club project, which the club is spearheading.
Mafume said every community in Harare should have a playable stadium, despite his council having neglected the majority of the infrastructure that falls under its ambit.
