Handloom weavers in Coimbatore received financial aid and loans on National Handloom Day to support their craft and improve income. The district administration also inaugurated an exhibition to promote traditional handwoven products.

About 10 handloom weavers in Coimbatore district received ₹4.47 lakh worth loans at an event held in Coimbatore city on Friday.
The loans were disbursed under the Weaver Mudra Loan Scheme, the Old Age Pension Scheme, the Savings and Security Scheme. Further five of them received support under the Handloom Support Scheme to buy loom equipment.
The District Revenue Officer of Coimbatore, V. Surendran, inaugurated a special handloom exhibition and sale at the district Collectorate on Friday to mark the National Handloom Day.
The exhibition, organised by the Handlooms Department, had various handwoven products such as kora cotton, soft silk, Negamam cotton and Toda embroidery products made in different handloom clusters of the district.
