HALF OF IRELAND’S grid-scale electricity generated in 2025 came from renewable sources.

However, there was wide variation on a daily basis in the renewable generation share, largely due to differences in wind generation.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) today released figures on electricity supply by source in 2025.

The electricity supply in the figures refers to output from main activity producers, whose primary activity is the supply of electricity to the grid for sale to other parties.

It does not include all supply from autoproducers who generate electricity primarily for their own use, such as generation from rooftop solar panels.

Gas was the largest energy source for electricity generation, responsible for 47% of generation.

Wind came in second and was the largest renewable source, providing 40% of generated electricity.
