GVMC warns apartment in Vizag for flouting waste management norms
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has issued a formal warning to a residential apartment complex for failing to comply with mandatory waste segregation and collection protocols. Commissioner Ketan Garg ordered the apartment management to adopt proper disposal practices or face potential sealing of the premises after discovering residents were dumping waste on the roadside.
Why it matters
This action highlights the increasing enforcement of urban sanitation and solid waste management regulations in Indian cities to combat public health hazards and environmental degradation.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has warned the management of a residential apartment near the District Judge’s Court of stringent action, including sealing of the premises, for violating the basic solid waste management norms.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, during an inspection of Wards 29, 32 and 33 on Thursday, reviewed the door-to-door waste segregation and collection system in the stretch from Saraswathi Park to the District Judge’s Court area in Ward 29.
During the inspection, Mr. Garg found that an apartment near the Judge’s Court did not have the required two dustbins for segregation of wet and dry waste. The apartment was not handing over the waste to GVMC collection vehicles, despite the vehicles being deployed every day for door-to-door collection.
