The Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department on Sunday sanctioned ₹400 crore for the development plan of roads and infrastructure works, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg said.

The GVMC chief stated in a release that around 205 kms of existing Gravel and Water Bound Macadam (WBM) roads in high- and medium-density areas within GVMC limits would be upgraded into Bituminous (BT)/Cement Concrete (CC) roads, along with end-to-end pavements and associated infrastructure.

Of the total ₹400 crore, GVMC would contribute ₹200 crore from its own funds, while Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) would contribute another ₹200 crore from its own funds, he said. VMRDA would transfer its share of funds to GVMC, and the works would be executed by GVMC under the Deposit Contribution Works (DCW) mode.
