GVMC fines ₹45,000 after raids reveal food safety violations at Gajuwaka outlets

Sanitation and Health (SHE) teams formed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Wednesday found the food joints in the Gajuwaka zone violating food safety guidelines during the raids conducted in the past few days. These establishments operated under unhygienic conditions featuring poor kitchen upkeep, faulty drainage, and improper food storage, officials said, noting mishandling of meat and usage of unauthorised food colours.
Two SHE teams comprising public health officials and staff, carried out inspections from Vantillu junction to Old Gajuwaka Junction. During the inspections, the team examined cleanliness in kitchens, quality of food items, food stored in refrigerators, availability of twin bins, use of single-use plastic and validity of trade licences at hotels, restaurants and fast-food centres.
However, the restaurants failed to meet the hygiene requirements and violating the prescribed norms were penalised ₹45,000.
