Gut bacteria mostly compete-but cooperation finds a way

A study from Umeå University mapping interactions between gut bacteria reveals that competition is the dominant behavior in the microbiome. However, researchers also identified specific mechanisms, such as extracellular vesicles, that facilitate cooperation between species.
