Guruvayur temple to introduce virtual queue for devotees twice a week from August 4
The Guruvayur Sreekrishna temple is introducing a virtual queue system for devotees starting August 4 to manage crowds more effectively. The system will initially operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, allowing up to 2,400 people to book darshan slots daily.
Why it matters
This shift toward digital reservation systems reflects the modernization of religious tourism management in India to handle high footfall.
Devotees will soon be able to book for darshan at the Guruvayur Sreekrishna temple through an online virtual queue system, with the Guruvayur Devaswom introducing the facility in compliance with a Kerala High Court directive.
The system will be launched on August 4 and will initially be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Under the new arrangement, devotees can reserve slots online, with up to six persons allowed in a single booking. The temple will permit 300 devotees every hour through the virtual queue, enabling around 2,400 people to have darshan each day under the system.
