Gurugram MP seeks action-report on encroachments, warns of CBI probe into waterlogging

Union Minister of State and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday expressed regret to residents affected by the recent waterlogging and said a permanent solution would require restoring the city’s natural drainage system, maximising rainwater harvesting and recharging groundwater.
At a meeting with senior officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and district administration, Mr. Singh sought an action-taken report on notices issued by Irrigation Department officials to builders over encroachments on natural drains. He also sought an inquiry report into alleged corruption to suppress the notices, warning that he would seek a CBI probe if necessary.
He directed Urban Development Adviser and former Chief Secretary D.S. Dhesi to coordinate among the civic bodies and departments to formulate a comprehensive, long-term policy on waterlogging. He also sought a detailed report on encroachments over nearly half a dozen ponds and natural drains.
