Guntur neurosurgeon highlights minimally invasive brain surgery

Preserving normal brain tissue and functional neural pathways while accessing deep-seated brain lesions is a key objective of modern minimally invasive microsurgery, said neurosurgeon Dr. Mohana Rao Patibandla at a press conference in Guntur on Saturday (August 29, 2026).
Dr. Rao, founder of Dr. Rao's Hospital–International Institute of Neurosciences, Guntur, recently delivered a keynote lecture at the World Neurosciences Summit 2026 in New Delhi on “Minimally Invasive Cylindrical Corridor Surgery – Modern Microsurgery Strategy for Deep-Seated Brain Lesions.”
The approach uses a white matter-sparing microsurgical corridor to access lesions deep inside the brain while preserving surrounding functional neural pathways. It emphasises precise surgical planning, neuronavigation and protection of normal brain tissue during microsurgery.
Dr. Rao said Cylinder Surgery has an evolving role in carefully selected patients with deep-seated brain lesions, where the surgical route is particularly important for minimising disruption to healthy brain structures.
