Gunther vs. Nick Aldis set for SummerSlam after Fanatics Fest brawl - Cageside Seats
Following a brawl at Fanatics Fest, WWE has officially scheduled a grudge match between Gunther and Nick Aldis for SummerSlam. The event card also features several high-profile championship bouts.
Why it matters
SummerSlam is one of the premier events in professional wrestling, and this match adds to the narrative stakes of the current WWE season.
If there was any doubt after the way the final match at the latest edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event ended at Madison Square Garden last night (July 18), it didn’t even last 24 hours.
Sunday afternoon from Fanatics Fest in another part of New York City*, WWE’s SummerSlam Kickoff kicked off with Gunther confronting Triple H about that SNME match, which he and Sami Zayn lost to CM Punk and Cody Rhodes after Nick Aldis blasted Gunther with Punk’s WWE championship belt. With that loss, Der Ring General and Zayn lost a chance to be added to Punk and Rhodes’ title match at SummerSlam.
