GUN CASE! Army Prosecutors Return Otafiire Brother’s File for Fresh Probe

Army prosecutors in Uganda have requested more time to investigate a firearms case involving Amos Rwangomani, the brother of a government minister. The case has been adjourned until November 2026 as investigators address gaps in the file.
Why it matters
The case highlights the intersection of military law and civilian legal proceedings, particularly involving individuals connected to high-ranking government officials.
Army prosecutors have asked the General Court Martial in Makindye for more time to complete investigations into a firearms case against Amos Rwangomani, a brother to Water and Environment Minister Gen Kahinda Otafiire. Prosecution told the court on Wednesday that investigators were still addressing gaps in the case file, prompting the court to adjourn the matter to November 4, 2026. Lt Regina Nanzala, who led the prosecution, told the court, presided over by Col Fredrick Kangwamu, that investigators had returned the file to the investigations team to address outstanding issues. She asked the court to give investigators more time to complete their work and submit an updated file. Rwangomani’s lawyer, Capt Daniel Kagombe, did not oppose the request. The court consequently adjourned the case to November 4, when prosecutors will report on the progress of the investigations.
