Gulu Senior Secondary School: A legacy of resilience

Gulu Senior Secondary School in northern Uganda has a long history of resilience, having been established by Asian founders before being taken over by the government during political instability. The school remains a vital institution for affordable education in the region.
Why it matters
The school serves as a case study for the survival of educational institutions through periods of conflict and political transition.
In 1968, Asians established the first private school in the Acholi sub-region, Gulu Senior Secondary School. However, they did not live to see it flourish after they were expelled by the government of President Idi Amin Dada in 1972.
