Gujarat has amended its rules to exempt residential houses owned or occupied by serving defence personnel, their spouses, former soldiers and widows of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice from Panchayat Tax. The decision applies to eligible beneficiaries whose residential property falls within the limits of a Gram Panchayat in Gujarat, with the exemption restricted to one residential house.The measure is intended to reduce the tax burden on the residential homes of soldiers and their families and provide them with direct financial relief. It also described the move as an expression of respect for the service of defence personnel and the sacrifices made by soldiers.Widows of soldiers included in tax reliefA specific provision has been made for widows of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.
