Bafana Mahungela was found guilty of Kirsten Kluyts’ murder nearly three years after the pregnant teacher’s body was discovered after a run at George Lea Park in Sandton.
The ruling was handed down in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Friday.
Mahungela disrupted court proceedings after Judge Ian Cox finished reading his judgment, asking if he should just “sit and listen”.
He raised his hand while the prosecutor was still discussing a date for the next appearance with the judge.
“Am I supposed to be just quiet – I don’t know?” Mahungela asked.
“Am I supposed to stand and just listen?”
Cox explained that, at that moment, he was supposed to simply listen because the court was delivering judgment and that he would have an opportunity to address the court during sentencing proceedings.
