A 25-year-old man was murdered by a four-member gang following a verbal altercation at Bommayarpalayam near Kottakuppam on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as P. Govindaraj alias Ajith of Senniamman Kovil Street in Bommayarpalayam.

The police said Ajith had been running a guest house at Bommayarpalayam on the East Coast Road. A birthday celebration was held at a volleyball ground near the lodging facility on Sunday night. A verbal dispute reportedly broke out, following which a gang allegedly entered the guest house and attacked Ajith with machettes.
