The GST Council is set to meet in New Delhi on September 12, with simplification of GST registration for businesses passing on tax credit of more than Rs 2.5 lakh a month among other issues in focus.The 57th meeting of the council, chaired by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and comprising state finance ministers, will be preceded by an officers' meeting on September 11, according to an office memorandum circulated by the Council secretariat.The council is also expected to consider automation and other changes in the process of GST registration cancellation.At present, central GST formations and various state formations do not follow a uniform procedure for granting GST registration to large businesses that pass on credit exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh a month. This has created uncertainty among taxpayers.The meeting comes after a gap of more than a year.
