Greens seek Rahul Gandhi’s intervention to stop Kambala during Mysuru Dasara

Parisarakkagi Naavu, an environmental organisation that has been opposing Kambala, the slush track buffalo race, during the Dasara festival in Mysuru, has now sought Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s intervention in the matter.
Parisarakkagi Naavu has now written to Mr. Gandhi, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to advise Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to drop the proposal to hold Kambala during Mysuru Dasara.
The letter sent to Mr. Gandhi by the Joint Action Committee, which, apart from Parisarakkagi Naavu, also comprises representatives from Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), Dalith Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) and other progressive organisations, cited unmanageable crowds, traffic congestion, excessive garbage, the addition of several programmes and the dilution of traditional rituals and heritage of Dasara while opposing Kambala during the festival in Mysuru.
