Granite idols unearthed at a house near Thiruvaiyaru

Two granite idols of Hindu deities were discovered by a resident in Sirupuliyur hamlet while excavating a fish pond in his backyard. The artifacts have been handed over to local revenue authorities for further examination.

Two granite idols of Hindu deities were unearthed at Sirupuliyur hamlet near Thiruvaiyaru on Sunday.
According to sources, the existence of the idols came to light when Ayyappan of Sirupuliyur engaged an earthmoving machinery to dig a fish pond on the backyard of his house on August 16. Mr. Ayyappan noticed the two idol like boulders. He asked the workers to do manual excavation and in the process they took out the idols.
Subsequently, the idols were handed over to the Revenue authorities, sources said.
