A fatal flash flood in the Grand Canyon's Bright Angel Canyon left at least two people dead and several others missing. National Park Service officials evacuated 62 people, many by helicopter, from the Phantom Ranch area. The storm destroyed infrastructure, leading to the closure of the North Kaibab Trail, Phantom Ranch and several bridges. The latest news: A Texas-based chiropractor was among the hikers found dead in the Canyon after flash flooding.
Two men were dead and one permitted visitor remained unaccounted for on Aug. 31 after flash flooding tore through Grand Canyon two days earlier, park officials said.
Incident commander Dave Black announced the updated count during an Aug. 31 evening press conference.
The number of known unaccounted-for people had fallen from about 15 to only one after a second body was recovered on Aug. 31, Black said.
