GPC to table motion to reduce food waste, strengthen food resilience through government and ground-up efforts
Singapore's Government Parliamentary Committee for sustainability and the environment is tabling a motion to improve food resilience and reduce waste. The initiative aims to address rising food costs caused by global supply chain disruptions and climate change.
Why it matters
Food security is a strategic priority for nations, especially in the face of geopolitical instability and environmental volatility.
Rising daily food expenses may be top of mind, but upstream improvements need to be discussed so Singapore has a robust infrastructure to serve its food needs in the long run, said GPC chair Ms Poh Li San.
