Govt to double fee for return of scramblers after seizure
The Irish government is doubling the impoundment fees for seized scrambler bikes to deter illegal and dangerous use in public spaces. The new regulations, signed by Minister Seán Canney, take effect on August 14.

The amount of money a scrambler owner must pay gardaí to have the vehicle returned to them after it is seized and detained is set to be doubled as part of the wider crackdown on scrambler use.
Minister of State for Road Transport and Independent TD Seán Canney signed the new ministerial regulation into law tonight and it will come into effect on 14 August.
Under existing rules, the amount of money a scrambler owner must pay gardaí to have their vehicle returned to them after it has been seized and detained is €125 for detention, removal and first day's storage and €35 for each additional day for a scrambler weighing up to 3,500kg.
For scramblers weighing more than 3,500kg, the existing figures are €250 for detention, removal and first day's storage and €50 for each additional day.
