Government to Introduce New System to Improve Management of Government-Owned Vehicles

Kenya, 6 August 2026 - The government has revealed plans to engineer a new automated system in a broader effort to improve oversight and management of all state-owned vehicles. In a statement on Saturday, the head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, revealed that the Government Management System (GVMS) will provide real-time oversight of every Government vehicle, its authorised driver, fuel consumption, mileage and maintenance history. The development was revealed after Koskei held a consultative meeting with representatives of the Executive, Parliament, Judiciary and security agencies to review the operational protocols governing Government vehicles. “We discussed how to enforce the relevant policies in a manner that responds to changing transport needs, advances in technology and growing accountability requirements,” Koskei stated. “The process brings together institutions across Government to build shared ownership, ensure alignment and support seamless implementation,” he added.
