Government to consider fodder supports for farmers

Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon has agreed to reconvene the National Fodder and Food Security Committee due to ongoing concerns over fodder supplies caused by the recent dry weather.
That has resulted in growing concerns over fodder supplies both now and into the winter months, concerns raised at today's meeting with Minister Heydon.
Minister Heydon told farmers groups that the Government will consider extra supports to address concerns over supplies of fodder, arising from the recent dry weather, as part of the upcoming Budget.
The development was confirmed during a meeting today with farming groups including Teagasc, the Irish Farmers' Association, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association, Macra and a number of other farming groups.
