Government holding talks to finalise Budget 2027

Irish government leaders are in final negotiations for the 2027 budget, focusing on childcare affordability, disability payments, and student fee reductions. The coalition is weighing various proposals, including a potential rebate for rural pubs, as they finalize the spending package.
Why it matters
These specific policy decisions directly impact the disposable income and social services available to Irish citizens in the coming year.
Government party leaders and the Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers are this evening finalising measures to cut the cost of childcare in the Budget.
Discussions are continuing in Government Buildings as the final elements of the Budget are set to be agreed tonight.
Minister Jack Chambers stressed that there is a determination within Government to make childcare more affordable.
He said it was important that young families saw that progress was being made in this area.
A €500 cost of disability payment has now been agreed and it seems that a €5 weekly increase on fuel allowance is more likely than a single €300 top-up payment.
The Government also looks set to accept a recommendation to bring the minimum wage to €14.94 cent from January, although plans to have a living wage in place by 2029 have stalled.
