Government college hostels in Keralam to remain closed during vacation; stringent steps ordered to prevent illegal occupancy
The Kerala Department of Collegiate Education has issued a circular mandating that government college hostels remain closed during summer vacations. Exceptions are permitted for students with academic requirements, provided they obtain prior approval and prevent unauthorized occupancy.
Why it matters
This policy aims to improve campus security and administrative oversight by strictly regulating hostel usage during off-peak periods.
Government college hostels functioning under the Department of Collegiate Education in Keralam will remain closed during the summer vacation declared by universities, except in cases such as university examinations, semester classes or other urgent circumstances, according to a circular issued by the department.
A recent circular issued in this regard states that when universities declare the summer vacation, generally during April and May, the hostels attached to colleges should also observe the vacation.
However, if university examinations, semester classes or other urgent circumstances require a hostel to function beyond March 31, the Principal should obtain prior permission from the Director of Collegiate Education.
If students are staying in hostels for university examinations or semester classes during the vacation, documents such as examination timetables, semester-class schedules or relevant notices should be submitted while seeking permission.
