Government brings major changes in the weightage of marks for teacher recruitments in Karnataka

The State government has brought major changes in the weightage of marks for the post of teachers in government schools, giving more importance to the competitive exam score rather than marks obtained in BEd, BPEd and DEd courses.
As per the draft rules of Karnataka Education Department Services (Department of Public Instruction) (Recruitment to Certain Teaching Posts) (Special) Rules, 2026, a total weightage of 70% of marks is given to written exam for the post of Primary School Teachers (PST) and Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPT) and a weightage of 85% of marks is given to written exam for the post of Physical Education Teacher (PET).
The government has published the gazette notification in this regard on July 14 and has given 15 days time to file the objections.
