Understanding the core principles of a dominant tech giant provides insight into the corporate philosophy driving global search and AI development.
Google has turned 28 today. The company still has a list of principles it says trace back to its early years. Called “Ten things we know to be true,” the list was first written when Google was just a few years old, and the company has revisited it over time. Google says it uses the list to check whether those principles still hold true, and explicitly adds: “you can hold us to that.”From putting users first and prioritising speed to its views on advertising, access to information, work culture, and constant innovation, these 10 points show what Google said it wanted to stand for early on. Some of the principles are closely tied to its search business, while others cover broader ideas about how the company develops products and operates.
