Google CEO Sundar Pichai shares thanks note for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s fund
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has acknowledged a partnership with the Bezos Earth Fund and SpaceX to launch new 'FireSat' satellites. This network aims to detect early-stage wildfires globally with high precision to prevent large-scale environmental destruction.
Why it matters
The collaboration between major tech leaders and nonprofits represents a significant technological advancement in climate change mitigation and disaster prevention.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai took to social media to thank Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Bezos Earth Fund, as well as Elon Musk's SpaceX and other key philanthropic partners for providing the rocket ride into orbit for three new advanced “FireSat” satellites that were successfully launched into space this week from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.“With just one year in orbit, the first FireSat satellite has already spotted wildfires invisible to existing satellites. After a successful launch early this morning, 3 more satellites joined the constellation, bringing us one step closer to our ultimate goal of near real-time wildfire updates every 20 minutes,” Pichai said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).“Thanks to @EarthFireAll @MuonSpace @MooreFound @BezosEarthFund for the partnership, & @SpaceX for the ride up!” he added.
