Good news for Canadiens' Martin St. Louis, but bad news regarding Kaiden Guhle

at 9:00 a.m. Last Updated: September 14, 2026 at 5:40 p.m. Believe it or not, the Canadiens’ Martin St. Louis is the fifth longest-tenured coach in the NHL.

The only coaches to be with the same franchise longer than St. Louis — who was hired on Feb. 9, 2022 — are the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Jon Cooper (2013), the Colorado Avalanche’s Jared Bednar (2016), the Carolina Hurricanes’ Rod Brind’Amour (2018) and the Utah Mammoth’s André Tourigny, who has been with the team since 2021, when it was in Arizona.

The Canadiens announced at their annual golf tournament Monday at Laval-sur-le-Lac that St. Louis has agreed to a new contract that runs for four more seasons, through 2029-30. St. Louis would have been heading into the final season of his old deal.
