Good Health Begins Long Before a Hospital Visit: Dr. Shriram Nene

Dr. Shriram Nene discusses his book, '21 Days to Good Health,' which advocates for a shift from acute medical intervention to preventive healthcare. He emphasizes the importance of nutrition, sleep, and mindset in avoiding chronic disease.
Why it matters
Promoting preventive healthcare is essential for reducing the long-term burden on medical systems and improving public health outcomes, especially in developing nations.
For Dr Shriram Nene, years spent treating patients as a cardiologist and cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon brought home a difficult realisation: by the time many people reached the operating table, the damage had been accumulating for decades. His book, 21 Days to Good Health, is an attempt to address that gap by making preventive healthcare a part of everyday life rather than something people turn to after a diagnosis.“As a heart surgeon, you would come in with millimeters and milliseconds and save lives. But what you figured out is that much of the damage was done over 20, 30, 40 years, and you couldn’t turn back the clock,” he says.
