Godfather of AI Yann LeCun opposes Dario Amodei’s call of slowing down AI development
AI pioneer Yann LeCun has publicly disagreed with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei regarding the need to slow down AI development. LeCun argues that restricting access to foundational models is counterproductive and compares such efforts to historical censorship.
Why it matters
The debate over AI safety versus open-source accessibility is shaping the regulatory landscape and the future of how powerful AI models are deployed to the public.
Yann LeCun, Turing Award winner and widely recognised as one of the three “godfathers of AI,” has pushed back against calls to slow down artificial intelligence (AI) development, accusing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei of using alarmist messaging to lobby regulators and restrict public access to the technology.
