Why it matters
This highlights a major philosophical and strategic divide within the AI industry regarding safety, regulation, and the future of open-source development.
Yann LeCun, widely known as the “godfather of AI”, does not believe artificial intelligence (AI) will wipe out humanity. Instead, LeCun says recent incidents in which AI agents hacked company networks and other systems were caused by poor human oversight and badly designed security systems. Speaking about the risks linked to AI agents, Yann LeCun said told Fortune: “Those agents are doing exactly what they’ve been asked to do,” adding that the systems were supposed to operate inside secure sandboxes.
