GIFT City Ecosystem Is Very Supportive: Edelweiss MD Radhika Gupta To NDTV

Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD Radhika Gupta expressed optimism about the growth potential of GIFT City, India's international financial services center. She noted that the regulatory environment is highly supportive, facilitating new products for both NRIs and Indians looking to invest abroad.
Why it matters
GIFT City is a flagship project for India's financial infrastructure, and its success is critical for the country's goal of becoming a global financial hub.
It's early days for GIFT City - India's first operational smart city and international financial services centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project in Gujarat - but the regulator is very supportive and keen to make it successful, Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD and CEO Radhika Gupta has said. Speaking to NDTV's CEO and Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal on Walk The Talk, Gupta said Edelweiss has launched two products out of GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) for money coming into India as well as for Indians working abroad. GIFT City is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, roughly 12 km from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. "So I think it's a work in progress. I think it's like making an investment in the mutual fund business 20 years ago. And, hopefully, 20 years later, we can say GIFT is what mutual funds are today.
