Why it matters
Public health initiatives targeting HPV are critical for long-term cancer prevention and reducing healthcare burdens in developing nations.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), is set to undertake two rounds of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation, focusing on Human Papillomavirus vaccination, in schools nationwide.
In a press release issued on October 19, the Service said the exercise, scheduled for October, November and December 2026, aims to raise awareness of the routine HPV vaccine, improve vaccination uptake, and ensure that all eligible girls aged 9 to 14 years are protected against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The exercise has been scheduled as follows: Round One from Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23, and Round Two from Monday, November 30 to Friday, December 4, 2026.
