Ghana has begun testing an experimental Lassa fever vaccine, with the first participants receiving their doses at the Kintampo Health Research Centre in the Bono East Region.

The study is aimed at gathering more information about the safety of the vaccine, known as ChAdOx1 LassaJ, and how the human body responds to it.

The research is supported by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), which is working to speed up the development of a safe and effective vaccine against Lassa fever.
