Ghana BECE automatic placement rate hits record high in 2026

Ghana’s educational sector has reached a significant milestone this year. The proportion of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates automatically placed into Senior High Schools has climbed to their highest level since 2021, according to fresh data released by the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Educational analysts view this upward trajectory as a major shift for thousands of students and families navigating the national transition from basic to secondary education.

Understanding the 2026 Figures and Qualified Candidates

Out of 604,567 candidates who qualified for placement in 2026, an impressive 527,932 students—representing 87.32%—secured automatic entry. This performance marks a clear improvement from the 81.96% recorded in 2025. It stands even further above the 66.23% registered in 2021 during the initial year covered by the dataset.
