'Get in' - woman joins police chase by giving officer a lift in Nissan Micra

A female driver came to the aid of a police officer who was chasing a suspect on foot - telling him to "get in" after stopping her Nissan Micra and offering him a lift.

The officer had been pursuing Jacob Roberts, 25, who had reverse-rammed a police car twice and crashed into parked cars and a building while trying to escape.

Roberts sped away from officers who had smelled cannabis coming from his van, with the chase seeing him drive in an erratic manner, failing to stop at multiple junctions, mounting pavements and putting pedestrians at risk.

The driver helped PC Kerswell catch up to Roberts, who was arrested and later jailed for one year and two months for a number of driving offences.
