On August 8, 2026, Kikandwa Village in Kasawo Town Council, Mukono District, witnessed a thanksgiving service dedicated to one of the area's senior residents, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.

The thanksgiving service focused particularly on Gen Katumba's 47 years of military service as he prepares to officially retire to civilian life this month.

In his sermon, Mukono Diocese Emeritus Bishop Jackson Matovu described the thanksgiving as one of the few occasions where leaders remember to thank God for a person's lifetime achievements while they are still alive and actively serving.

“We are honoured to have people like you, Gen Wamala, who always remember how far God has enabled them to serve and remain alive to testify to the world that God has been good and continues to reign in their respective lives,” he told guests attending the thanksgiving ceremony on Saturday.
